Fallow Earth is a sustainability research and design studio with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and participatory research methodologies. We specialise in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that bring together researchers and stakeholders with diverse perspectives.
We aim to bridge the gap between the environmental and creative sectors, in the belief that collaboration between the sciences and arts can deliver transformative innovation and impact. We support artists, designers and cultural institutions to engage with environmental science and sustainability in meaningful ways. Recently, we have worked on:
- Developing a policy matrix for carbon sequestration in the AFOLU sector for the OECD and Scotland's Rural College
- Integrating IPCC soil carbon stock change models into HESTIA, a life-cycle assessment platform for agricultural products developed by the University of Oxford
- Coaching students at a design and data science summer school hosted by the Edinburgh Futures Institute
- Designing a programme of participatory product development workshops for MKV
